Go Green: What Organic Coffee Means to You

Conscientious consumers are finding ways to make healthier decisions for themselves and their families, with the increased awareness of how these choices impact the environment for future generations.   When making purchases, the organic coffee bean is often overlooked as an opportunity to improve health, and the well being of the planet.  Organic coffee beans provide a healthier cup of coffee, superior taste, and a greater respect for our ecosystem than non-organic coffees.

Organic Coffee & Health Benefits

Organic beans are free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, which means no residues and a reduced risk of ingesting chemicals.  This natural growing process promotes a coffee bean that is high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and contains a pure form of caffeine.  Like organic produce, organic coffee is a healthier choice.   And because many of us consume multiple cups of coffee each day, it is especially important to be aware of the toxic chemicals in the bags of non organic coffee that we unwittingly purchase at the store.

Organic Coffee & the Environment

Organic farming preserves the delicate ecosystem by promoting the natural development of pest control and balance of the soil.  Where traditional farming clears the land for the crops, organic coffee farming preserves the forests and natural habit for birds and animals by growing the beans under the shade of indigenous trees,  Along with the help of the birds consumption of bugs, companion planting, fungus based pesticides, and special soils are all organic pest control methods, that can be used in place of chemicals, to protect the beans.  Compost and mulch are often used as fertilizers.  The result is that the chemical free nutrients are absorbed by the beans, greatly enhancing the taste of the hand picked, fully mature, coffee beans.  By purchasing organic coffee you are making a healthy choice for yourself while helping to preserve the forests that provide habitat for birds and animals, and contribute so greatly to our ecosystem.

Although thought to be more expensive, organic products are often found at the same price as their chemically enhanced counterparts, and with a little diligence you can provide healthier alternatives for yourself and your family.  Organic coffee is an excellent choice not only for your health and the environment, but has the added satisfaction of superior flavor in your morning cup of coffee….
