America’s Sweetheart: Doris Day Continues to Charm by Dina Eastwood
I was flipping through the latest issue of Carmel Magazine and realized many of our coffee fans out there may not know that America’s Sweetheart, Doris Day, is a local resident of Carmel. It seems fitting to include a story about her in our February “Sweetheart” Issue.
Doris Day sat down with Dina Eastwood (Clint’s wife) and spoke to her about her career as a singer, dancer and actress. She also talks about her infinite love for animals and the work she continues to do through The Doris Day Animal League and the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
If you have every visited the charming hotel she owns with Denny LeVett in Carmel, Cypress Inn, you know she put pet-friendly hotels on the map! You can see more and make reservations for you and your pet at this quintessentially Carmel boutique hotel by visiting their website Cypress-Inn.com.

Doris: Blessings to you on this day..You have been a positive influence in my life since I was a young girl…now soon to be 65..I grew up in a small and beautiful town on Lake Michigan, Petoskey, ask Clint, I believe He visited there a few years back…(Bay Harbor/Petoskey/Harbor Springs) I started singing your songs from South Pacific…and still have the album…Blessings abound to you and ” thank you” for all you’ve done for so many..Cynthia

I sit here quietly… by John Davies (© 25 January 2013)
I sit here quietly here on Carmel beach
Thinking of the girl, I cannot seem reach
I send her my poems, but there’s no reply
Maybe she’ll pass and kick sand in my eye
The Sun is shining and there’s a breeze
And I’m building castles down on my knee’s
But will she show today, I hope and wonder?
Or maybe tomorrow, I’ll continue to ponder
The day will be long and I’ll get a tan
Here on this beach, If I stay all day long
And if it gets dark or if it starts to rain
I’ll come back tomorrow, and do it again
